HERAT (TOLONews): The disruption of fiber optic internet in Herat and several other provinces has caused widespread concern among Afghan citizens.
They say that the outage of high-speed internet is disrupting their economic, educational, and social activities.
According to a decision by the Islamic Emirate government, fiber optic internet has been cut off in more than ten provinces across the country.
Abdul Hadi Qane, a social activist in Herat, stated: “We expect that no restrictions will be imposed on internet access. If any programs are to be implemented in this regard, they should be designed in a way that minimizes harm to the public.”
Residents of Balkh province also say that the internet outage has negatively affected their business, educational, and social activities.
One resident of Balkh said: “Cutting off home internet can have serious negative impacts on all aspects of life. A major portion of public services, such as the issuance of ID cards, passports, and the banking system, depends on the internet.”
According to several civil society activists, the loss of high-speed internet leaves negative consequences across various sectors in the country.
Sayed Ashraf Sadat, a civil society activist, said: “Cutting off the internet could have devastating consequences for Afghanistan’s economy and communication systems. It also disrupts commercial, banking, and customs operations across the country.”
Fiber optic internet, which has seen significant growth in recent years, plays a crucial role in the development of business, education, banking, customs, and other areas of public life.
Citizens are calling on the Islamic Emirate to monitor internet distribution rather than impose restrictions on high-speed access.
