LAHORE: In a big relief for Justice (r) Nasira Iqbal, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared an order for the issuance of her arrest warrants null and void.
Justice Khalid Ishaq accepted Justice (r) Nasira’s petition against the arrest warrants and released a written order on Saturday.
A tehsildar at Model Town had issued her warrants in 2022 for non-payment of agriculture tax.
In the same year, however, the LHC had suspended the tehsildar’s order.
In her petition, Justice (r) had argued that agricultural land in Islamabad had been allotted to her, and as per the law, agriculture tax could not be levied on it.
Counsel for the plaintiff told the court that warrants were issued for his client’s arrest for not paying Rs96,600 in agriculture tax.
Punjab government’s lawyer opposed the petition.
However, he failed to satisfy the court.
