LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab arrested 89 terrorists during 940 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) carried out across different cities of the province in the past three months.
According to the CTD Punjab spokesperson, the arrests included 14 suspects each from Lahore and Rawalpindi, seven each from Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, six each from Jhang and Sargodha, five from Sahiwal, four from Gujranwala, and three each from Gujrat and Bahawalnagar.
The spokesperson revealed that those taken into custody included 55 operatives linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, five from ISIS, two from Al-Qaeda, two from Hizb-ut-Tahrir, and two from Jiye Sindh.
During the raids, CTD also seized a large cache of explosives and equipment, including 85 detonators, 183 feet of safety fuse wire, 717 pamphlets, prima cards, mobile phones, and heavy cash.
The identified terrorists were named as Ishaq, Shoaib, Hamza, Javed Iqbal, Ishaq Khan, Zahid, Sohail, Asad, Tahir, and Munir. Officials stated that the militants were planning to launch attacks at various locations to spread fear and panic among the public.
The CTD further reported that 13,521 combing operations were conducted in three months, leading to the arrest of 1,131 suspects, while over 552,000 individuals were questioned during the security sweeps.
The spokesperson asserts that CTD is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe Punjab and is committed to permanently eradicate the threat of terrorism from the province.
