Suhail Shaheen urges UNSC to lift travel ban on Islamic Emirate’s FM

KABUL (TOLONews): While the United Nations Security Council has extended the travel ban on the Islamic Emirate’s Foreign Minister, Suhail Shaheen, the Emirate’s envoy in Doha, has called for the removal of these restrictions.

Shaheen stated that in order to strengthen relations, it is essential that Amir Khan Muttaqi be granted permission to travel.

Suhail Shaheen, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s envoy in Doha, said: “The truth is that the responsibility of our Foreign Minister, Honorable Muttaqi Sahib, is to expand relations and diplomacy. Travel restrictions make no sense. There should be exemptions from these restrictions so that he can hold meetings and resolve issues.”

Meanwhile, Indian media have reported that New Delhi may request the Security Council to grant a travel exemption for Amir Khan Muttaqi.

Shamsurrahman Ahmadzai, a political analyst, said: “Amir Khan Muttaqi’s trip to India is very important at this time and could help strengthen friendship with India. This visit would allow us to find a solution to the current political challenges we face with the world.”

International relations experts say that global restrictions on Islamic Emirate leaders, including travel bans, are a major obstacle to Afghanistan’s engagement with regional and international countries.

Muin Gul Samakni, another political analyst, said: “If we do not have exchanges with other countries, they will not have information about us, and we will not have information about them. As a result, the concerns of both sides remain one-sided and unresolved. For this reason, these sanctions imposed on senior officials of the Islamic Emirate are among the main reasons why we have not been able to reach an understanding with the world over the past four years.”

Previously, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visits to India and Pakistan were also postponed due to the absence of travel exemptions.
