KABUL (TOLONews): A number of Kabul residents say that noise pollution, especially in some areas of the city, has become one of the serious daily challenges, and these days they are woken up by the loudspeakers of street vendors.
Faheem, a Kabul resident, said: “Whether it’s morning, noon, or even during prayer time, loudspeakers create problems for citizens.”
Some other citizens are also asking vendors to write the prices of their goods on paper and display them in a visible place so that loudspeakers are not needed.
They have called on the Kabul municipality to control and reduce noise pollution in the city.
Ebrahim Rasooli, another Kabul resident, added: “Even at six in the morning, they shout loudly to sell mineral water, and this bothers many people. They should instead put up a sign and clearly write the price on it so there would be no need for noise pollution.”
Meanwhile, Kabul municipality has assured that efforts are underway to address this problem.
Nematullah Barekzai, a representative of Kabul municipality, said: “We request all citizens to cooperate with Kabul municipality in cultural matters. Those who cause noise pollution should not think they must only stop when municipal officials arrive; they should understand that noise pollution creates disturbances for citizens.”
Noise pollution has always been one of the recurring challenges in the capital, and residents have consistently complained about it.
Previously, Kabul municipality had also announced that it would launch a campaign to collect loudspeakers in order to reduce this problem.
