
KABUL (TOLONews): Based on the amnesty decree issued by the leader of the Islamic Emirate, 317 prisoners, including women and children, were released from Nangarhar prison on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
Sohail Saeed, Head of Prison Affairs in Nangarhar, stated that under this decree, the prison sentences of another 385 inmates have also been reduced.
Saeed said: “317 individuals, including women and children, have been included in the amnesty list, and 385 others have benefited from sentence reductions.”
Meanwhile, some of those recently released said they intend to live within the framework of the law from now on.
Sirajul Haq, one of the freed prisoners, said: “The Islamic Emirate sentenced me to one year in prison, of which I served ten months.”
Mohammad Nader, another freed prisoner, said: “From now on, we do not want to commit crimes or engage in any wrongdoing. A decree was issued, and under it, we were pardoned. God willing, we have been freed, and from today onward, we will not make mistakes again.”
According to the Nangarhar prison authorities, about 1,800 people, including women and children, are currently serving their sentences in this prison.
