CANADA (Khaama Press): The Canadian government announced on Thursday that two chartered planes carrying Afghan refugees had landed. Welcoming the newly arrived, Canada stated that by the end of 2023, it plans to resettle at least 40,000 Afghans.
Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced on Thursday that two chartered planes carrying Afghan citizens had landed in Canada, their new home.
According to Sean Fraser’s tweet, one of these planes landed in Toronto, the capital of the Canadian province of Ontario, and the other in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province of Canada.
While the tweet did not specify the number of resettled Afghan refugees, the Canadian Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship reported that 23,500 Afghan refugees have entered the country including those who reached on Thursday.
“Canada has now welcomed over 23,500 Afghan refugees,” Fraser tweeted. “We’ll continue to work hard to safely resettle at least 40,000 individuals by the end of 2023.”
Following the Taliban takeover last August, Germany also announced that it will admit 1,000 Afghan refugees each month under a new admission program, the German Foreign Ministry previously announced on October 17.
The new program will admit 1,000 Afghans and their family members each month, with a focus on women’s and human rights advocates, as well as those at risk of working in the domains of justice, politics, journalism, education, culture, sport, or science.
