KABUL (TOLOnews): The Ministry of Higher Education announced it has allotted three days a week for female students and three days for male students at Kabul University and Kabul Polytechnic University.
“Based on the proposal of Kabul University, the instructors and students, this plan is made and come into effect. From now, three odd-days of the week are for girls and another three days of the week are for boys,” said Khalid Dad Ahmadi Taqa, a spokesman for the Ministry.
The academic council of Kabul University said that the plan will come into effect in other universities across the country.
The plan was set to be implemented. However, the plan was criticized by some students.
“The level of lessons within three days is overwhelming. Due to the recent changes in the country, all students are affected and they will not be able to understand the lessons throughout the day,” said Parween, a student of Kabul university. Some students have different perspectives of the new plan.
“There are challenges lay ahead for the male and female students such as economic ones, jobs, and being responsible for a family,” said Bahija Aman, a student. “We can call it a dead plan because three to four days holiday in a week will cause dissatisfaction for the students and will affect their motivation,” said Ajmir Sadat, a student.
Shahpor Bariz, a university instructor believes that the new scheme for Kabul University will face problems. “There are several problems. First of all, a timetable should be prepared which is not possible in such a short time. The ministry allotted 16 weeks for one semester. The level of lessons per week dropped and the period of time increased from 16 weeks to 28,” he said.
This comes as earlier the students complained over a lack of instructors in the university as dozens of academic figures left the country following the collapse of the former government.
